Decibel Meter: dB Noise Meter
Know how loud it really is, and whether it is safe.

What it does
Decibel Meter turns your phone into a sound level meter. A clear needle gauge, an LED level bar and big live numbers show the level in dBA, dBC or dBZ with Fast, Slow or Impulse response, together with the average (Leq), minimum, maximum and peak.
Swipe through five live graphs: level over time, 1/3 and full octave bands, an FFT analyzer, a spectrogram and the waveform. The dosimeter tracks your noise dose against NIOSH, OSHA or your own limits and tells you how long you can safely stay at the current level.
Every measurement is saved to your History with its chart, statistics (L10, L50, L90) and notes, and you can export it as a PDF report, CSV or HTML. Pro adds a night monitor that finds what woke you up, photos and videos with your reading on them, and optional audio recording.
A phone microphone is not a certified sound level meter. Readings are a reliable guide for everyday use, and you can calibrate the app against a reference meter for better accuracy.

Frequently asked questions
How accurate is a phone decibel meter?
Without calibration, expect readings within about 3 dB of a real sound level meter between 40 and 100 dB. Very quiet rooms read a little high, because the phone's own noise adds up. For better accuracy, match the app to a reference meter in Settings > Calibration.
Does the app record my conversations?
No. The microphone is used to calculate the sound level, and the audio is discarded right away. Audio is only saved if you turn on Record audio in Settings, and then it stays on your phone unless you share it.
What is the difference between dBA and dBC?
dBA follows how people hear and is the right choice for everyday noise and hearing safety. dBC keeps the bass, which is useful for music, engines and short peaks.
What permissions does the app use?
- Microphone: measures the sound level on your device. Audio is turned into numbers and discarded; it is only saved if you turn on audio recording, and then it stays on your phone.
- Camera (optional): only when you take a photo or video with your reading on it.
- Notifications (optional): shows that the night monitor is running.
You can review or revoke permissions at any time in Settings > Apps > Decibel Meter > Permissions.
