Decibel Meter: dB Noise Meter privacy policy
Last updated: October 27, 2026
Decibel Meter ("the app") is published by Overmax Labs. This policy explains what the app uses, what it keeps and why.
Microphone: we measure loudness; audio only if you turn it on
The app uses your phone's microphone to calculate sound levels in decibels. Audio is processed in memory on your device, turned into numbers and discarded immediately. By default the app never saves or records audio, and it never transcribes or uploads audio.
Optional audio recording (Pro, off by default). If you turn on "Record audio" in Settings > Data, the microphone audio of each measurement is saved as a WAV file in the app's private storage on your device, next to its levels, so you can play it back or export it. It is never uploaded: it only leaves your phone if you share it yourself. Deleting a measurement deletes its audio, and uninstalling the app deletes all of it. The night monitor never records audio, even with this option on.
Night monitor (Pro). When you start it, the app keeps measuring with the screen off and shows a notification while it runs. It saves only two numbers per second (the average and maximum level), never audio.
Your History. The levels of your measurements (one value per second), with any name and notes you add, are stored only on your device. You can delete any measurement at any time.
Camera
The camera is used only when you take a photo or a video with your reading drawn on it. Photos and videos are saved to your device and are only shared if you choose to. Videos have no sound track. We never upload your photos or videos.
Exports
PDF, CSV, HTML and WAV exports are created on your device and handed to the app you choose in the Android share menu. We do not receive them.
Data collected by services we use
- Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics (Google) collect app usage events (for example, that a measurement started, its duration and its maximum level rounded to 1 dB), device and app information, and crash reports, linked to a random app instance identifier. We use them to understand how the app is used and to fix problems. They never receive audio, photos or your History.
- Firebase Remote Config and App Check (Google) let us adjust app settings remotely and protect our server from abuse. App Check uses Google Play Integrity.
- Google Play Billing processes Pro subscriptions. We receive the purchase status and a purchase token, which our server sends to Google Play to confirm the subscription. We never see your payment details and we do not store the token.
- Ads. The current version shows no ads. If a future free version shows ads, Google AdMob and its mediation partners may use your device's advertising ID; this policy will be updated before that happens, and you will be able to manage your choices in Settings > Ad privacy choices.
We do not sell your data. Data sent to these services is encrypted in transit.
Retention and deletion
Data on your device stays until you delete it or uninstall the app. Analytics data is kept for at most 14 months, and crash reports for at most 90 days. To ask us to delete data held by these services, see the data deletion page.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
