Step Tracker Launcher · com.overmax.steptrackerlauncher · OverMax S.A. · Last updated: 17 October 2026

This policy explains how Step Tracker Launcher (package com.overmax.steptrackerlauncher), published on Google Play by OverMax, accesses, collects, uses and shares information. It applies to this app only.

What this app does

Step Tracker Launcher counts your daily steps with your phone's built-in step sensor and shows your steps, calories, active time and distance by day, week and month. It can replace your home screen so the step counter is one swipe away, and it can optionally show your steps over the lock screen. It also includes a search screen with public news headlines and a weather screen. It is free and paid for by advertising.

Information we collect

We do not collect, store or upload your personal data to our own servers. We do not have servers.

Your steps, your step history, your daily goal and your profile (gender, height and weight) stay on your device. We do not upload them, sell them or share them with anyone, and we do not build advertising profiles of our own.

The app works with the following information, all of it on your device:

We also use Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to count anonymous usage events (for example, that the step panel was opened, that the daily goal was changed, or that the app crashed) and to receive crash reports with device model and Android version. These events never include your step counts, your goal, your weight, height or gender, which app you opened, which website you visited, or what you searched for.

Step counting

Steps are counted by your phone's own hardware step sensor. To keep counting while the app is closed, the app runs a foreground service that shows a persistent notification with your steps and calories for the day. Counting happens entirely on your device; no step data is sent over the internet. If you ask the app not to be restricted by battery optimisation, it is only so the system does not stop the step counter.

Step, calorie, distance and active time figures are estimates for general fitness use only. The app is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice.

Permissions and why

PermissionWhy the app needs it

POST_NOTIFICATIONSTo show that step notification and to tell you when you reach your daily goal.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETEDTo resume step counting after you restart your phone.
REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONSOptional. Lets you ask the system not to stop the step counter in the background.

SET_WALLPAPERTo apply the wallpaper you pick on the wallpaper screen.

AD_IDUsed by Google AdMob to serve and measure ads, and by the Meta SDK to measure our ad campaigns (see Advertising and Measuring our ad campaigns).
Package visibility (a <queries> declaration)To list the apps you can open, as any home screen app does. We do not use QUERY_ALL_PACKAGES.

Advertising

The app shows ads from Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and process data as described in Google's privacy policy, including a device advertising identifier, in order to serve and measure ads:

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland we ask for your consent before personalised ads are served, using Google's certified consent tool. You can change that choice at any time from Menu → Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information inside the app, which also lets residents of US states with privacy laws opt out.

Measuring our ad campaigns (Meta)

The app includes the Meta (Facebook) SDK to measure app installs and how our advertising campaigns on Facebook and Instagram perform. When it is active, it sends Meta your device's advertising identifier, basic device information (such as model and Android version), your IP address and a few app events: that the app was opened, that it was set as your home screen, and that the app drawer was opened.

It never sends your steps, your step history, your goal or your profile, which apps you have or open, or what you search for. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland it is only used after you give consent in the same consent tool used for ads. Meta processes this information under its own policy:

Weather

To show the temperature on the home screen and the weather screen, the app needs to know roughly where you are:

The coordinates — rounded to one decimal, a grid of about 11 km — are then sent to Open-Meteo to get the current temperature, the forecast and the air quality index. We do not send any identifier with those requests. The last weather and the approximate city are cached on your device so the screen opens instantly; your location is never sent to us.

Wallpapers

The wallpaper screen shows photos from Unsplash. The app asks Unsplash for photos of the category you open, and when you apply a photo it tells Unsplash that the photo was downloaded, as Unsplash requires. We do not send any identifier with those requests. The wallpaper is set by your phone; we do not keep a copy.

News and search

The search screen shows public news headlines. To build that list, the app reads the public RSS feeds of the publishers themselves (BBC, The Guardian, New York Post, ABC News, CBS News, Engadget, Variety and Sky News). Those publishers see the request the way any browser or feed reader would. Opening a headline opens the publisher's own page in a browser tab, where that publisher's privacy policy applies.

While you type in the search bar, what you have typed is sent to Google's public suggestion service, and the site icon shown next to each headline is loaded from Google's public favicon service. We do not send an identifier with either request.

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
